SAMUTER of great plains and countryside
Case Studies
These SAMUTERs operate in extensive peneplains, plains, fertile plains and sedimentary countryside traditionally used for agriculture or livestock farming, with hardly any direct urban impact. Most of this type of environment is located in the interior of the peninsula, although there are also important plains of historical agricultural dedication along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast of Andalusia. These areas are currently dominated by consolidated commercial agrosystems, both rainfed and irrigated, often specialised in one dominant crop or livestock use (olive groves, vineyards, cereals and industrial crops, vineyards, livestock pastures, large irrigated areas dedicated to different crops, etc.). In these areas with a strong agricultural focus, which shape and manage large landscapes with a strong character and identity, SAMUTERs are distinguished from conventional industrial agro-systems by their anchoring in the territory, a prudent use of resources, proximity between the sphere of production, processing and marketing, and forms of governance with a high level of participation of local actors.
